A great orchestra is practicing, led by an eminent conductor. A great din of noise arises from the many diverse instruments. A man playing the piccolo thinks to himself, "In the midst of this great noise, my little instrument is not important, it will not be missed." So, he stops playing, whereupon the conductor, with keen ear, stops the music and asks, "Where is the piccolo?"

To me, the Creation Story in the Jewish and Christian scriptures is so much more than about how everything got here. Among those intuitions is the wonder of the unknown of just how such diversity got here, and gets here, all the time. "God" is not defining for us a who that did all this, but only adds to the mystery. Just who, what, is this no-who, this no-what, we attach names and titles to and right out of our own diverse languages? Now, whatever, whoever, that is the Spring of all this diversity, so whatever, whoever, must relish the orchestra of Life. The piccolo enriches the music of the orchestra. But... Oh my, oh my! the mere mess, if the piccolo tries to sound like the trombone. And... My oh my! the mere mess when you or I try to be something, someone, we are not. Imagine an oak trying to be a cedar. Think of an eagle trying to live among the swine. Grey is not blue, and blue not grey ~ True?

After listening to the song above, "Wonder," I was so touched I wrote a friend and shared it. The reply mirrored back to me a reason I was so attracted to it. Well, she observed, change from feminine to masculine in the lyrics, and you have you. I reviewed the lyrics, and these lines stood out...
People see me
I'm a challenge to your balance
I'm over your heads
How I confound you and astound you
To know I must be one of the wonders
Of God's own creation
And as far as you see you can offer me
No explanation
This was affirming, casting fresh light on a history of not fitting-in since childhood, of getting into trouble over and over and over with the 'right-thinkers,' being opposed in work settings due to persons not being able to get a mind around me, and a writing journey few pay attention to ~ my writing opaque to most, lucid to few, and not essentially due to style or language, but ~ ... Those who know, know, seeing without eyes, not willing to try to keep the Sun inside a jar ....

My life, my style, not only in writing but everyday life, is being created to be different without my trying to be different. I celebrate that as a Wonder. Celebrate yourself, too, as a Wonder unfolding moment-by-moment in the timeless Dance. So, it is. So, why not live it? Love it? Stand out from others, thankfully ~ Why not? In celebrating your uniqueness, you celebrate the uniqueness of others. Our likeness and our difference is one and two, not just one. Peace.
